Do you have an overgrown tree in your garden?

Tree pruning & trimming or as some might call it crown reduction is a technique used by arborists and tree surgeons to improve the health, structure, look and safety of the tree without majorly altering its overall size or shape.

This service is generally recommended for broadleaf trees like oak, birch, cherry and sycamore

The process behind crown thinning/tree pruning:

  1. Selecting and removing small branches around the crown (top, middle and bottom of the top of the tree where all the branches are).
  2. Focus on creating a uniform structure of big branches which are evenly spaced out.
  3. Dead, diseased, weak rubbing or crossing branches will be prioritised for removal.

Benefits:

  • Removing branches from the structure creates less wind resistance, this makes the tree more resistant to falling over in a storm.
  • Heavy, dead or diseased limbs of the tree can fall even in moderate wind, tree pruning safeguards against these a potential limb failure.
  • The canopy becomes more free to breath increasing air circulation which helps prevent disease, you can look at this as an investment in your garden staying strong and healthy.

Pollarding

Pollarding is another method of pruning trees and shrubs to keep them from growing above a certain height. Annual prodding will restrict the plant growth especially height, and increase the width and health of the tree or shrub.

The Process behind pollarding:

  1. Identify the right trees as not all trees are suited for pollarding. Willows, limes, hornbeams, or pollarded oaks deal well with pruning.
  2. Establish a framework, we consult with you for desired size and shape of your pollard trees.
  3. We make clean cuts using our sharp tools at a slight angle, this encourages new shoots to grow.
  4. As always we remove all the debris and properly dispose of it making the area cleaner than it was found in.

Benefits of Pollarding

  • Pollarding encourages the grown of new shoots leading to a denser and healthier canopy of the tree.
  • The removal of infected and dead or rotting branches, will help prevent the spread of diseases and pests throughout the tree and the neighbouring trees.
  • Extends lifespan of the tree by promoting new healthier growth of branches.
  • If you cannot afford to have your trees grow out of control ,regular pollarding checks the growth of the trees which also increasing the light penetration for surrounding plants and trees.
  • We want to create a vision for you, by consulting with you about the right shape and structure we can create a desired shape for your tree.
